Dini: We expect Albania to keep its promises
Albanians are taking advantage of African means of transport and our political and diplomatic support at the international headquarters, as well as at the Headquarters of Good Will. We told Albanians: change the government with the free vote, not by means of automatic weapons.
On the occasion of the International Conference in Tirana, the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lamberto Dini, has sent this short message to Albania [?].

Exclusively for “Gazeta Shqiptare”
I accepted the invitation with pleasure. I have the opportunity today, in Tirana, to take part in the International Conference on Albania, a meeting of special importance also to reaffirm Italy’s strong and continuing support for Albania.
During these difficult years, Italy and Albania have made great progress, especially thanks to the determined concentration of efforts on rebuilding order and respect, in order to restore, through agreements and cooperation, despite extraordinary difficulties, it is truly encouraging to see how the adoption of international norms and respect for human rights has become part of the culture and new politics of this country. We told Albanians: change the government with the free vote, not by means of automatic weapons; they are encouraged and with a new authority. Now the new Albanian government is trying, through its program, to advance and achieve its objectives of accession. We note that the exact observance of the constitutional act and of the institution approved in the national referendum is beginning to bear its first fruits. Albania is moving in the right direction to fulfill its responsibility to itself and to the international community. In this way it is on its way toward European integration.
We are convinced and encouraged by the concrete results now emerging in the political and economic sphere. The provision of modern professional standards first and foremost for the Forces of Order, the restructuring of the justice administration, the organization of free elections, the strengthening of the fight against crime and corruption, as well as the improvement of citizens’ well-being, are truly a guarantee that Albania has irreversibly embraced democracy. We are convinced that the government will not miss this historic opportunity. We are also convinced that, with the implementation of the resolution that was truly made to strengthen and internationalize the high order of the state and will restore to its rightful place respect for human rights. All these developments for us are proof that the progress in the advancement and realization of Albanian society is now tangible. Albania and Italy are in a phase of a new relationship of trust and peace. Italy is also aware of the need to continue firmly the joint commitment with all the countries of Europe in favor of cooperation and stability in the region.
